Staff don’t read their emails? Tips for you K12 Admin

Isn’t it frustrating when your staff don’t read their emails?! You work hard to craft a carefully written, important message, only to find out later they never read it!

This can be a big problem if you’re counting on email to communicate with parties involved in a civil rights investigation and email does no good if the receiver doesn’t read it.

While I wish I had a magic pill to solve this problem for you, I don’t. But I do have a couple of methods that I use to help overcome this issue.

One option if it’s available to you is to use a read receipt. But of course you could always run into the issue that someone may open the email and you receive the read receipt but they don’t actually read the email.

Another option I like to use is to send the email and follow up with a voicemail letting them know I left them an important email and I expect them to read it as soon as possible and if necessary include a due date. I find that if I include this extra step people are more likely to actually read my email.
